Actually voice acting is one of the best i've encountered in games, not a single line of text without a voiceover. A bit too simple puzzles perhaps to complete the main story, but still leaves a space to scratch your head to get all achievements.Recommended.. Detective Grimoire is a beautiful, fun -even funny sometimes- and well made game. It has some interesting mechanisms (like combining clues to form sentences) and a non-annoying background music. Each character is unique, memorable, likable and exploring the swamp is enjoyable.Unfortunately the puzzles are way too easy. Seriously, if you like puzzle/adventure games you'll probably think someone is playing a joke on you. It gave me the impression it was made for elementary students. That's not a bad thing though, especially if you're aware of it beforehand.Despite initially hoping it would have some interesting puzzles, and subsequently being very disappointed because it didn't, I still had a good time. I'll even consider trying the sequel that's been hinted at.On the plus side, if you care about this sort of stuff, it's a very easy game to 100%, and drops 5 trading cards.. Detective Grimoire is a delight; it's a perfect game for fans of point and click adventure games with a mystery slant.Pros: - Colourful, wonderful animation style.- Quirky and interesting characters.- Clean and easy to understand UI.- Clues and notes were easy to access and read.- GREAT voice acting and dialog. Genuinely funny at times.- I loved being able to click on a map to quickly travel around the game area. - Fantastic music and sound.- Super fun system of deduction. Cons:- Few puzzles.- Puzzles were extremely easy.- The challenge system was a bit tedious. If you answer a question incorrectly you have to repeat it all over again.- Short! I'm excited for a sequel :D. What a nice little gem of a game. From the low price and short playtime, I expected a semi-professional game with enough charm to pass an evening on the cheap. While indeed completable 100% in 3 hours, it exceeded my expectations with the quality of the voice acting, the soundtrack and the overall design and experience. In terms of humor, it had just the right kind of wit I appreciate in point-and-clicks without overdoing it and compromising the cartoony but gloomy atmosphere of the setting.It's the first game I play that focuses this heavily on solving a case, and I enjoyed it more than I expected. The clue and evidence system was intuitive and nicely visual, it was engaging to collect objects and get every NPC's thoughts on them and other characters, and the solution to the plot was neither convoluted nor obvious.I would not hesitate to recommend Detective Grimoire to any fan of point-and-clicks, as well as anyone looking for an approachable game to get a taste of the genre. While a few key objects are harder to find than others, you won't have to spend considerable time hunting for pixels or trying to combine junk in your inventory: as long as you pay attention to what you're being told and piece the implications together, the story flows very nicely and the things you hear naturally point you in the right direction to progress.. To me, adventure games are like french fries.I enjoy the anticipation of french fries. I like their smell, I like how they look, and I even enjoy eating the first few french fries. However after eating first few fries, they sit like an iron weight in my stomach and I start feeling sick. Then I remember "Oh yes. This is why I shouldn't buy french fries. I should remember never to buy them again." I buy a lot of french fries.I also enjoy the anticipation of adventure games. The videos tease an interesting plot, cool artwork, funny dialogue, or a tantalizing mystery and I can't resist. However, after playing one for a few minutes, I remember why I hate them. Most of the gameplay consists of searching for something to click on, watching unskippable cutscenes, or waiting for characters to walk... and I remind myself never to buy one again. I buy a lot of adventure games....and this is the first one I've enjoyed playing. The high points for me are what's not there:- You will never need to watch a character walk.- All the cutscenes are skippable and most are repeatable if you miss something.- Movement is instant. Click on the map location you want and your character is instantly there.All the puzzles are trivially easy, and the gameplay itself mainly consists of dialog trees. You click on all the dialog options in order while the game tells you its story. This is a good thing, though. A game like this is all about the story, and difficult puzzles just interrupt the storytelling.If you'd just like to be told a story and you hate the gameplay in traditional point-and-click adventures, this is the adventure game for you.Subscribe to my curator page hereView my other reviews here
